We are active in the field of Music, Arts, Literature . We provide stage to aspiring Artists in these fields. We also run a music school named “Kalika Sangeet Vidyalaya” where training in Indian Classical Music, Harmonium, Tabla is imparted in nominal fees.
The trust was founded by Gomantakiya Daivdnya Brahmin community who were refugees from Karachi (Sind)
After the partition of India, refugees settled in Ulhasnagar then known as Kalyan Camp. Apart from Sindhi, refugees also had some Marathi & Goan people are known for their love for Art, Theatre & Music. Keeping away the pains & sufferings as refugees they decided to promote Art & Culture. Goan people who were Daivdnya Brahmins came together to establish an institution which was named after their Deity “ Kalika Mata”. Shri Kalika Kala Mandal was thus established on Vijayadashami of 1949. Lead was taken by Late Bhikaji Vasedeo Chodankar, Ghanashyam Wamanrao Banodkar, Vishnu Bhikaji Chodankar, Jagannath Bhikaji chodankar, Sadashiv Aant Lotlikar, Chandrakant Harischandra Chodankar, Baburao, Vinayak & Ramakant Pednekar. The Mandal was registered with Charity Commissioner Thane in Feb 1959.
After the establishment of Mandal work was started in the area of Bhajans, Library, Sangeet Vidyalay, & Marathi Play (Drama). Late Vishnu Bhikaji Chodankar has taken lead to perform various Historic, Social Marathi Drama. There were 2 to 3 other Mandals performing drama in local Ganeshotsav & Shiv Jayani Utsav. However Mandal's drama was popular amongst local public. Some poplar play includes, Nekjaat Maratha, Sinha Garjana , Parakrami Peshwa, Shivkankan, Sarnoubat, Jinjihun sutaka, Raigadachi Rani, Marathyanchi Mulagi, Tuz Ahe Tujapashi, Katha Kunachi Vyatha Kuna, Lagna aadhi Varat, Vegala Vhyaychay Mala, Kholi Pahije etc.
Mandal's Plays were special attraction for Ulhasnagar people. Anant, Jagannath, Vasudeo, Vishnu, Surendra & Padmanabh Chodankar, , Ravi, Keshav & Kaka Malwankar, Hari vitthal Pednekar, Laxman Rewankar, Shambhu & Narahari Nagavekar, Sudhir Deorukhkar, Neeta & Vijayalaxmi Borkar, Hemangi, Darshana, Naresh & Rohit Chodankar ,Prabhakar, Ramesh, Sunil & Mahesh Banodkar, Sharada Lotalikar & other artist left their impression by their acting in the hearts of Ulhasnagarkar. In those days Ladies character were played by Gents like Prabhakar Banodkar, Yeshwant Nagavekar & Vinayak Pednekar. Music side was looked after by C. Chandrakant alias Chandrakant Chodankar & Ravi Malawankar. Costumes & Make up side was looked after by Suryakant shinde & Dattu Khot. In the beginning Bhikaji Chodankar & later Jagannath chodankar directed all these plays.
In order to Promote Indian Classical Music, Mandal provided Platform to Young & emerging Artist Like Aasha Parasnis, Vandana Bhagwat, Asha Khadilkar,Rashmi Jere, Chandrshekhar Barde, Laxmanprasad & Govindprasad Jaipurwale, Dinkar Panashikar, Govinrao Verlekar, Vasant Kadnekar,Shubhada Paradkar, Ramdasbuva Khule, Vandana Katti, Anand Pednekar, Govindram Mathur, Rani Chakravarti, bhagwan Dharap,Shubhangi Jere, Alka Joshi, Vidya Jadhgav, Himangi Vernekar, Sujan Salkar, Pralhad Hadphadkar, Pt Sadashiv Pawar, Arun Kashalkar, Vishwanath Shirodkar, Sadashiv Oturkar, Bhattacharjee, Prabhakar Banodkar, Rajendra Pednekar, Kewalram, Gulabrai, Gobindram , Yeshwant Yadav (Harmonium), bhagwandas, Manoj Shirodkar, Minal Salkar, Prashant Chodankar, Vishnavi Phatak (Dance) etc. Rangoli & Akashdeep Competition was also held with the lead of Balkrishna Chodankar
Shri Kalika Kala Mandal has a bhajan Mandal which is popular in Ulhasnagar & around area. It was started by Late Sadashiv Lotlikar. along with Late Chandrakant Chodankar (Vocal/Harmonium) & Jagganath Chodankar (Tabla). The bhajanas are based on Raagdaari.”
Kalika Sangeet Vidyalaya” was initially led by Shri Chandrakant Chodankar (Vocal & Harmonium) & Jagannath Chodankar (Tabla). At Present Prashant Chodankar (Vocal & Harmonium) & Rohit Chodankar(Tabla) are carrying on responsibility of .” Kalika Sangeet Vidyalaya” .
Mandal is also active in the field of Literature & Sports. It has held Sports competitions in the past.
In the year 1985 Mandal built a small hall on its plot of Land under leadership of then Secretary Late Ghanashyam Banodkar. In 2018 a grand hall was built under Leadership of Milind Chodankar. Mandal's all programme are celebrated here. Free Yoga camp is also organised by Mandal. It caters to the need of local public The hall can be used by Public for functions in nominal rate.
For the last 72 years Mandal has provided stage to aspiring Artists in the different fields like Vocal, Instrumental, Classical Dance, Drawing & Literature. In near future Mandal is planning to enter in the field of social service activities, We appeal the people to donate generously for the cause of Mandal.
